National City Neighborhood Guide

National City is one of the oldest settlements in the state of California, with archaeological sites along the Sweetwater River dating back to about 130,000 years ago. There’s much here to pique the interest of the historically-inclined. Nowadays it’s a diverse, multicultural city with very reasonable housing prices. National City’s climate is a little more extreme than the rest of the coastal San Diego area, with average summer highs reaching 80°F and winter lows in the 40s – still very pleasant compared to some areas of the country, though!

Several new parks have been constructed for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, such as Pepper Park, on the waterfront near Pier 32 Marina, which features a YMCA, boat launching area, and picnic spots. Kimball Park, at 12th Street and D Avenue, offers sports fields, tennis and basketball courts, and a skating park.

National City is located with San Diego to the north, Chula Vista to the south, Bonita to the east, the San Diego Bay to the west. Interstates 5 and 805 run north/south and State Route 54 runs east/west, making travel in and out fast and easy.
