Imperial Beach Neighborhood Guide

Imperial Beach is a quiet town just north of the Mexico border; it is south of the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It still shows its roots as a funky surfing town, but, especially near the beach and the pier, it has been gradually redeveloped and refurbished. You can find some of the best bargains for seaside SoCal living in this neighborhood. There are about 4 miles of beaches, and, given the mild seaside climate, people come to play all year around. The Boca Rio beach break offers some of the best surfing in San Diego country. Body boarding and beach volleyball are also popular pastimes. You can also fish off the pier or enjoy a quiet stroll. Imperial Beach is one of the least touristy areas in the county, so the whole community enjoys a very ‘local’ feel.

The US Navy maintains a large presence here, with the Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach and Silver Strand Training Complex close by.

State route 75 runs through the northern portion of Imperial Beach, and Interstate-5 is a couple of miles to the east.
