Vista Neighborhood Guide

Vista is a small city of about 98,000 people located 41 miles north of San Diego. These gently rolling hills have been settled for hundreds of years, starting with the Luiseno Indians. Starting off small, the city grew by leaps and bounds during the 1970s through the 2000s. Vista is about 6 miles inland (measured from its western border), so the climate is still fairly mild, with average summer highs in the 80s and winter lows in the mid-40s. It’s not uncommon for the west side of town to be cooler during the summer than the east side.

The main road through Vista is State Route 78, which is also the commercial area. You can find anything you want in this self-contained town – Walmart, Target, and Costco all have large stores here. If you want something special, the upscale boutiques of Carlsbad are only a few miles away to the west.

In addition to the usual SoCal parks and outdoor recreation facilities, Vista has the Moonlight Ampitheatre, an open-air theater that hosts musicals in the summer and concerts in the wintertime. Vista is also home to the Japanese-American Cultural Center and Buddhist Temple and the Wave Waterpark.
