Poway Neighborhood Guide

Poway is a city of around 50,000 people that serves as a bedroom community for San Diego, which is 22 miles to the south. It has some of the best schools in the state, making it a great place to raise children. It’s also a really safe neighborhood, so you can walk around the many hiking trails with total confidence. Lake Poway is a great place for fishing and camping, too. For golfers there are the StoneRidge and Maderas country clubs on the north side of town. Poway isn’t known for its nightlife, however. When residents get the yen for the bright city lights they just make the drive into San Diego, which isn’t that far away.

Poway is about 14 miles inland (the nearest beaches are in Del Mar), so the climate is hotter in summer and cooler in winter. It’s considered a semi-arid climate – summer highs in the upper 80s, winter lows in the mid-40s.

You can find basic shopping along Poway Road. At the intersection with Community Road you can find stores such as Walmart, Lowes, and Sprouts Farmers Market, as well as a movie theater. There’s also a smaller shopping area at the Pomerado Road intersection.
