University City Neighborhood Guide

University City is known as the ‘Golden Triangle’ in recognition of all the opportunities it brings to the city of San Diego. Many of the tech businesses and research institutes that contribute so much to the economy of the region can be found here, along with the University of California, San Diego. On the west side of the triangle is La Jolla, SR 52 runs along the south side, and I-805 is to the east.

This community is made up of two parts: North UC, which has a higher population density, with most of the residences being multi-unit structures such as townhouses, apartments, and condominiums. South UC mostly has detached single-family homes. Beautiful Rose Canyon separates the two halves. Other canyons, such as San Clemente canyon, increase the amount of natural space within the neighborhood. The canyons are home to 100 bird species and many unique plant species, as well as providing the human inhabitants with places to hike, bicycle, and refresh themselves in nature.

There’s plenty of shopping to be had here. There are three standard shopping malls, plus the gargantuan Westfield UTC shopping center, which is newly expanded and refurbished, with a large parking structure to take care of your city-parking woes.
