Pacific Beach Neighborhood Guide

Pacific Beach, known affectionately as ‘PB’, has one of the most active nightlife scenes in San Diego. With its young population and fabulous beach, this neighborhood is a fun and vibrant place to live. You have a choice of bars, restaurants, coffee houses, and shops, with Garnet Avenue being the major commercial artery.

This neighborhood’s main attraction is the beach it was named for, which extends from the Mission Bay jetty to the La Jolla cliffs. You can watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean while taking a stroll down the 3.2-mile boardwalk that runs along the beach, and stop for coffee or duck into one of the shops along the way. If you want to do something a little more athletic it’s also a great place to cycle or rollerblade – and, of course, surf.

In the past Pacific Beach was a haven for surfers and college students, but the population is gradually becoming more upscale, leading to rising rents and property values.

To the north of Pacific Beach is La Jolla, while Mission Beach and Mission Bay are on the south side. Interstate 5 defines the eastern border and the Pacific Ocean is to the west.
