Mission Valley Neighborhood Guide

The Mission Valley neighborhood is built around the San Diego River Valley. It is the site of the oldest Spanish settlement in the US, dating back to 1769. In modern times it’s conveniently located in the center of San Diego county, about six miles north and west of Downtown San Diego. It is highly accessible, with Interstate 8 running down the center, Interstate 5 to the west and Interstate 15 to the east. The neighborhood is divided up into Mission Valley East and West, separated from each other by State Route 163.

You can still visit the Mission San Diego de Alcala, that gives Mission Valley its name. Also located here is Qualcomm Stadium, home to the San Diego Chargers and San Diego State Aztecs football teams. If you enjoy hiking and rock climbing you can explore Mission Trails Regional Park, while those with more sedate outdoor interests can enjoy a round of golf at the Riverwalk Golf Club.

Real estate here is relatively affordable compared to some other sections of San Diego. Most of the housing is made up of detached residences and large apartment buildings, with a good sprinkling of townhouses and smaller developments as well.
