Mission Hills Neighborhood Guide

Mission Hills is located on the hilly area south of the San Diego River Valley, with Downtown San Diego to the north. This prosperous community was originally developed in the early 20th century, and features many houses from that period, often beautifully restored. A number of well-known architects contributed their talents, including William Hebbard, William Templeton Johnson, Richard Requa, and many more. This is no cookie-cutter development – each home is unique and attractive, set off by well-kept lawns and beautiful landscaping.

This neighborhood is highly walkable, and a total crime rate 48% lower than the San Diego average makes it safe as well. You can enjoy a pleasant stroll through Pioneer Park or Mission Hills Park, or along the main commercial areas around University Avenue and Washington Street. This community offers a choice of restaurants and boutique shopping, but if you need more variety or exciting entertainment you can walk to Hillcrest, which is to the east, or Old Town, which is to the Northwest. If you need stuff for your garden, however, Mission Hills has you covered, with one of the oldest and best-stocked plant nurseries in the city.
