Mission Beach Neighborhood Guide

Mission Beach is built right out on a sandbar between Mission Bay and the Pacific. It got a late start in life due to the difficulties of building on this location, but now it is one of the most densely populated sections of San Diego. Mission Beach is made up of two miles of ocean-front property, bounded to the south by the San Diego River and to the north by the Pacific Beach neighborhood. Mission Bay Park is on the east side and on the west side, of course, is the Pacific Ocean.

The main road running down the center of Mission Beach is Mission Boulevard. Boardwalks run down the full length of the beach on both sides, and you have a wide choice of things to do. There’s the ever-popular swimming, surfing, diving, and beach volleyball. You can also go whale watching or sport fishing. Belmont Park, at the corner of Mission Blvd and West Mission Bay Drive, features one of the oldest roller coasters in the US, as well as a merry-go-round and other rides to delight the children. This neighborhood also offers plenty for adults to enjoy, with a swinging night life and lots of relaxed beach bars.

Real-estate wise, Mission Beach has some of the smallest lots in the city. Many of the houses have a second story for this reason.
