La Jolla Neighborhood Guide

La Jolla is one of the ritziest neighborhoods in all of California. It’s located about 12 miles north of downtown San Diego, strung out over 7 miles with the Pacific coastline to the west and bluffs to the east. The white sand beaches and clear blue waters make it one of the prettiest towns in the state. La Jolla cove is home to seals, and a great spot for swimming, diving, snorkeling, surfing, and kayaking. You can also find great shops, top-rated restaurants, and many entertainment options, such as the Birch Aquarium or the La Jolla Playhouse theater company.

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) campus can be found on the north side of La Jolla, along with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It’s not just in higher education that La Jolla excels, it has excellent elementary and high schools as well. The crime rate is 60% lower than San Diego average, making this town a great place to raise a family.

All in all, this neighborhood is a fantastic place to live – if you can afford it. Real estate prices here are some of the highest in the country. However, considering the amenities this town provides, many people would consider it money well spent.
