Kensington Neighborhood Guide

Kensington is a small, quiet neighborhood in the central section of San Diego right next to Mission Valley. It’s quiet winding streets make it a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. The quaint Spanish-colonial-style houses, with their thick stucco walls and red-tiled roofs, make it stand out from the rest of San Diego.

The residents express a high degree of satisfaction with the place, saying that there’s a real sense of community and everyone watches out for one another. Kensington is one of San Diego’s oldest neighborhoods, and features mature trees, some almost 100 years old. It’s a great place to walk, jog, or take your dog for an outing. With a crime rate 41% lower than the San Diego average, it’s very safe.

Adams Avenue is the main commercial street and the most convenient way in and out of town, giving access to the rest of San Diego via I-15. It’s lined with shops, restaurants, and necessities such as the dry cleaner and pet supply store.

Real estate is pricey in this upscale neighborhood, which is mostly made up of detached homes in its signature style. Kensington is bordered by I-5 to the west and I-8 to the north. On the east side is Fairmont Avenue and to the south is City Heights.
