Downtown Neighborhood Guide

Downtown San Diego, also known as Centre City, is full of historic landmarks such as the Gaslamp Quarter Historic District and the Spreckels theater. You can even tour antique ships docked at the B Street Pier. You’d never have a dull moment living in Downtown San Diego. The opera and symphony are located here, as well as Petco Park, base for the San Diego Padres.

The area also has a full complement of bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops for your enjoyment, not to mention the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. This urban city center has good public transportation in the form of buses, trains, and trolleys. Many places are also walkable. If you travel away from home a lot, the airport is close by. Downtown is also accessible from three freeways: State Route 163 (SR 163), I5, and SR 94.

The neighborhood is divided into several different sections: Core-Columbia contains the business district, along with upscale condos and restored lofts. Cortez Hill gives you some fantastic views of the surrounding city, while East Village contains Petco Park. Gaslamp Quarter is the main tourist area; Little Italy is a great place to go for some authentic Italian food. The Marina district hosts Pantoja Park, the oldest park in San Diego.
